Summer Internships Give Students First-Hand Business Insights

Some students at Hatboro-Horsham High School are keeping themselves busy during the summer with its Bridges internship program. Bridges is targeted to juniors and seniors providing opportunities for internships in the professions. This can assist students in deciding which programs to take in college.

A student interested in an internship must complete an application and meet with one of the teachers for an interview. The teachers work with the students to develop their resumes, talk to them about their interests and identify possible placements. A teacher also accompanies each student on interviews with prospective employers.

The internships, which are unpaid, can last between two weeks and six months, and usually take place during the summer. Here at NewAge, interns meet regularly with CEO, Ken Baker, and with company team leaders. They get the opportunity to spend time with team members in various departments and learn about different job responsibilities and requirements.

Enrichment of a Grade School in Impoverished Cambodia

computer class in CambodiaWhen several of our team members received new laptops recently, five machines were donated to the Caramanico School in northern Cambodia. The school, founded by Anne and Thomas Caramanico in rural Ratanakiri provence, has 180 students. Up until last year the school had only one computer powered by a single solar panel on the roof. Now with multiple computers, the school can offer computer instruction as a class as opposed to one-on-one instruction. Visit the school website at www.caramanicoschool.com for more information on the work being done there.

Employees Give the Gift of Life

The American Red CrossSeveral times throughout the year, NewAge invites its team members to take an hour of their workday to donate a pint of blood. The American Red Cross sets up a temporary donation site at the company's headquarters, where a portion of the staff gives blood. It's a winning situation for both organizations: NewAge's team contributes to the area's blood supply without ever having to leave the building.

Team Members Help Underprivileged Kids During the Holidays

toys for totsThe team members at NewAge Industries contribute to the Toys for Tots program to help needy families and children in our area.

Conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, the mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the local community. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.

You can help Toys for Tots by making a donation today.

Bringing the Real Business World Into the Classroom

Partners in Education logoNewAge Industries works with an educational organization called Partners in Education, which involves businesses with local high schools. Our company's CEO, Ken Baker, truly believes that today's students are tomorrows leaders and generously gives both time and money to both. Ken visits the business classes of our area's two high schools to communicate topics ranging from business ethics to career development and interviewing skills. NewAge also hosts teachers and students at the company's offices where each can learn about educational requirements, job fields in demand, intern opportunities, and the complexities and rewards of operating a business. Partners in Education helps bring the real business world into the classroom.

Supporting School Sports and Music

school band and sportsNewAge frequently responds to requests from the athletic teams of local schools and sports associations and from school-sponsored musical groups. The teams and groups ask businesses for financial support by the placement of an advertisement in program books to accompany their events. These ads remind attendees who NewAge is and what we do, while helping the kids.
