Material Focus
Silicone
Silicone not to be confused with silicon, a chemical element (Si) was developed for commercial use in the 1940s. Silicone compounds contain silicon and carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and/or other chemical elements. Silicone is used in numerous products including toys, sealants and caulks, bakeware, electronics, and automotive components.
Silicone tubing has long been used in the medical field, as it meets that industry’s requirements for cleanliness and non-toxicity. Another of silicone’s major features resistance to extreme temperature variations has enabled its use in applications where flexible tubing is needed to handle temperatures not possible with other plastics or rubbers.
Being a rubber-like thermoset material, silicone tubing and hose is extremely pliable and elastic. It is unaltered by the effects of weather and generally exhibits inertness toward U.V., radiation, and ozone.
A broad line of tubing and hose products made from this versatile material is available, including molded parts and platinum-cured versions to ensure the least possible extractables. NewAge Industries’ manufacturing clean room is designed to produce products particularly suited to medical and pharmaceutical applications, and our industrial grades offer exceptional performance at relatively lower costs. A full-vacuum-rated silicone hose to meet needs such as chemical tank suctioning is also stocked. Click here to view our range of silicone tubing and hose.
Note: NewAge Industries does not produce or sell human-implantable silicone products.
