Polypropylene
Polypropylene, or PP, is one of the lightest thermoplastics available. Developed in the 1950’s, today it is used for packaging, textiles, reusable containers, automotive components, banknotes, and more, in addition to tubing. In many of its forms, it is recyclable and designated by the number 5.
Polypropylene provides excellent dimensional stability and electrical properties and good surface hardness. It resists a wide variety of chemicals and offers very low moisture absorption. Polypropylene is naturally white in appearance but is easy to color.
In tubing form, polypropylene can be employed as a relatively low-cost alternative to fluoropolymer. Its composition also makes it good for use in structural systems. It’s weldable, although it is commonly joined with push-to-connect fittings such as NewAge Industries’ Newloc®.
