Silicone tubing and reinforced hose are used in applications ranging from appliances to chemical transfer to viscous material handling. They have a long history in the medical field, as they meet the industry’s standards for cleanliness and non-toxicity.
Silicone’s benefits include resistance to temperature variations (from as low as 100°F to as high as 500°F; -73°C to 260°C), flexibility and elasticity, and inertness toward U.V., radiation, and ozone. Many of these properties are retained in NewAge’s medical grade silicones. The material compounds differ somewhat from those for industrial grades in order to meet USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) Class VI, NSF (National Sanitation Foundation), and other medical-related requirements.
Medical silicone tubing and hose from NewAge Industries are nonreactive to body tissues and fluids and are odorless, tasteless, and inert. Their surface properties resist encrustation and will not support bacteria growth. They offer translucency that allows the flow of fluids to be seen. NewAge’s medical silicone products are clean room manufactured without plasticizers ingredients added to make materials more pliable that can leach out and cause flow contamination or tube hardening.
NewAge offers medical grade silicone tubing in both peroxide and platinum cured styles; medical grade reinforced silicone hose is available peroxide cured. The company’s high purity division, AdvantaPure®, offers platinum-cured silicone hose as well as other clean-application tubing materials.
Note: NewAge Industries does not manufacture or sell human-implantable silicone products.
