Tubing & Hose Buying Tips
#21: Tensile Strength
Tensile strength, or the resistance of a material to break under tension, is determined by a tension or pull test and usually expressed in pounds per square inch (psi). Tensile strength for NewAge Industries' plastic tubing materials ranges from 1800 psi for flexible PVC (polyvinyl chloride) to 8700 psi for semi-rigid nylon-11. Rubber materials average 1100 psi for silicone and up to 3500 psi for natural latex.

Pharmaceutical
Tubing and hose applications in the pharmaceutical industry can range from simple drain lines for non-potable water, to the transfer of USP (United States Pharmacopoeia) sterile water for injection, to finished product filling. The choice of tubing or reinforced hose material depends not only on what will flow through it, but at what temperature, whether it involves pressure or vacuum, whether the application is single or repeated use, and other factors.

Product Comparison
Peroxide vs. Platinum Silicone
Peroxide and platinum are used in the manufacturing and curing processes of silicone tubing available from NewAge. Both are catalysts that help convert the silicone elastomer into a form suitable for tubing extrusion. Peroxide curing uses free radicals and high temperatures to vulcanize, or harden, the silicone, while platinum curing, known as an addition cure, adds platinum to the elastomer for vulcanization.
