Product Comparison — Hot Bond® vs. Separate Pieces

Hot Bond is the name of the process used by NewAge Industries to thermally bond two or more sections of tubing together. The procedure uses heat and proprietary machinery to join lengths of plastic tubing into a neat ribbon structure. Naturally, separate lengths of tubing can usually be employed in an application, but Hot Bond addresses concerns such as:

  • HotBondInstallation expenses and time — Hot Bond eliminates the routing of multiple tubing lines
  • A professional appearance — there are no superfluous portions of tubing, so dimensions and fit are more exact
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting — it's easy to see and trace lines

Using separate lengths of tubing has its advantages as well. Should a problem arise with only one tube, it can be removed, although this can be hampered by the use of cable ties or adhesives. In the case of bonded tubing, the entire length may need removal. Separate pieces of tubing are normally necessary when different tubing materials are used, such as PVC and silicone, as Hot Bond can be used only with like materials (i.e. polyurethane bonded to polyurethane, fluoropolymer bonded to fluoropolymer).

HotBond ElectricThree types of Hot Bond are available. Permanent Bond offers maximum durability. Permanently bonded tubing will not separate without cutting tools (which should be used carefully to leave the tubing wall undamaged). Strippable Bond provides flexibility during installation by permitting the separation of individual tubes from the ribbon structure for fitting purposes. Tools are typically not needed — simply twist the tubing or hose at the bond and peel back. Skip Bond alternates bonded material with unbonded sections at regular intervals specified by the customer.

Another tube bonding option is Electric Hot Bond. Here, customer-supplied electrical wire and light cable can be bonded to tubing to meet the needs of electropneumatic service. Standard PVC or fluoropolymer jacketed wires can mate with tubing of similar material.

Contact a NewAge representative to discuss whether Hot Bond or separate lengths of tubing will work best in your application.
