Safety Couplings

SafeAir CouplingWho doesn't want to work with connectors that have been designed with safety in mind? Whether you call them fittings, couplers, couplings, connectors, connections or adapters, they're all made to attach one thing to another. And the safer you can do that, the better.

In the case of connecting tubing or hose to machinery, devices, or another hose, that same action often needs to be reversed later – the attachment must be disconnected. Some types of fittings (cam operated and push-to-connect, for example) are designed to attach, disconnect and reattach easily.

Safety couplings are constructed with installation, disconnection, performance and, of course, operator protection in mind. Many safety couplings, and specifically those designed for compressed air applications, connect in one simple step but have a two-step release. The operator performs an action, such as pushing a button, that vents air before he or she can completely separate the fitting from the device or machinery to which it is attached – that's what makes them safe. They're designed to disconnect only after the venting step has finished.

This type of coupling can prevent injuries caused by fast pop-offs and whipping hoses that can occur with compressed air usage. When the air pressure undergoes controlled release, worker safety is increased. Application examples include pneumatically-operated machinery and general shop air supply.
