Appliance

espresso machineWhen most people hear the word "appliance," they think of the types found in their kitchens and laundry rooms. But "appliance" can be viewed in broader terms and include commercial equipment such as beverage vending machinery (think milkshakes and hot coffee drinks), ice makers, soft serve ice cream, roasters, steamers and other high-volume cooking equipment. And surprisingly, these appliances that seem to be made mostly of metals like aluminum and stainless steel can contain miles of plastic tubing.

"Where?" you might ask. It's often not visible except at the point where, for instance, your freshly-blended beverage or frozen treat is dispensed into your cup. Tubing is used inside the equipment for:

  • Moving different liquids to the spot where they can be mixed together
  • Excess fluid run-off
  • Hot and cold temperature insulation
  • Electrical wiring protection

beverage dispenser control panelOther appliances include HVAC equipment, commercial laundry machinery, water purification equipment and a host of medical devices that all use tubing to move fluid or gas from point A to point B and beyond.

PVC and Silicone HoseThe type of tubing material used varies by application. Those that need a durable product for oil and abrasion resistance may call for polyurethane. Applications requiring flexibility and heat protection might incorporate silicone or fluoropolymer. PVC or silicone may be used in food and beverage applications, including those for potable water, where NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) or another organization's certification is required.

If you have a question about what thermoplastic or thermoset tubing is best for your appliance application, give a Fluid Transfer Specialist® a call at 800-506-3924 or send an e-mail to sales@newageindustries.com.
